The ONE thing that can make or break a portfolio career, that most people overlook.

Hello my Career Adventurist friends…Gosh it has been a super long time since my last post! Time flies when you’re KonMari’ing your home!

Last week my good pal and “super connector” Abel and I gave a talk at INSEAD about how to make the move from corporate life to portfolio careers.

That was super fun to prepare for because Abel and I have been trading stories about our portfolio careers for years, and we’ve talked about giving this talk, developing this into a larger platform through webinars and possibly an elective course, for several months now. Our common passion for this hot topic really came through as we dove into working out our presentation.

One of the many things we agreed upon was that when making a move to a portfolio careers, the very first thing you need to be sure about is your “why” - and it feels relevant to ‘steal’ the phrase “what’s your why?” from Simon Sinek here.

I wanted to share a little bit about this topic on the blog as to me, this is THE most important thing to think about…and not the What (i.e. what will I be doing) and How (i.e. how do I make the transition). That’s not to say they’re not important, but they shouldn’t be your first port of call.

And as I was thinking about what to write for the blog today, I got a little lazy typing and decided to record my thoughts instead… This is a rough, unedited and unscripted voice log, so bear that in mind, as you take a listen and tell me what you think!

Perhaps this will be the start of the vlog and podcast that I’ve been putting off :)
